Mountain Top Hires a New Executive Director

Similar to many nonprofits, Mountain Top Explorium has experienced a great deal of change after the pandemic. While having found a temporary space, Mountain Top continues to seek a permanent location for the museum, along with a leadership transition after executive director, Tiernan Spencer, accepted a role to lead the new Wildflower Nature School in Silverthorne. Throughout our leadership transition we have been extremely thankful to have Program Director, Hadley Talty, and Marketing & Development Director, Sophie Hansen provide the necessary leadership to keep our many programs and museum up and running. We have welcomed countless families within our museum and are finishing up the summer with another successful summer day camp program supporting approximately 240 local families, all while preparing to offer a much needed after school and school break program.

It’s with great enthusiasm that I and the Mountain Top Explorium board are excited to welcome Dave Miller as our new executive director. Dave has a tremendous amount of experience within youth programs and nonprofit administration. Most recently, he served several leadership roles at Keystone Science School where he helped create after school, summer day camp, and several enriching programs which have made a large impact on our local and tourist communities. His time on the Summit School Board and as a classroom teacher has given him the experience of blending traditional K-12 education with those lessons found in non-traditional education settings such as our museum.

According to Dave, “I am so excited to continue the rich history of Mountain Top Explorium and founder Laura Horvath. It will be exciting to see how we can work with the local community to create a children’s museum which is not just a museum but a community center for children and caregivers. There’s also so much opportunity to serve kids through camp, after school, and school break programs. I can’t wait to work with the board and staff to engage the community and volunteers in all of this important work.”

Dave has already started working to get Mountain Top Explorium poised for our future growth and success. I invite all community members to learn more and see how they can get involved in Mountain Top Explorium.
